Last weekend was a long weekend here in New Zealand due to Labour Day on Monday the 28th. Unsurprisingly, Auckland’s event planner looked jam-packed while the fabulous weather called for a hike. It’s been a tough choice, but in the end I visited the Tall Ships Festival in the harbour and the Armageddon Expo showcasing the latest video games, sci-fi and manga trends.
Turns out I simply couldn’t resist the charm of the four dwarves from The Hobbit. And I was keen to useย the occasion to take a few shots forย my events gallery.ย Please click on the images for a larger view and allow me to refer you to the image titles for more event details.
The Bark Europa, ready the hoist the yards. It’s a three mast rigged ship built in 1911.
The Oosterschelde visited New Zealand during the Tall Ship Festival. It is a three-masted schooner from the Netherlands, built in 1918.
Unfortunately, non of the tall vessels had their sails set in the harbour. It would have been even more impressive, but I guess it also holds some risks…
Jed Brophy (Nori), Peter Hambleton (Gloin), Stephen Hunter (Bombur) and John Callen (Oin) patiently answered fan questions for 60 minutes before they finished a very entertaining panel discussion with a performance of the song “Misty Mountains”. Gooseflesh!
